Field Center
The Park District of Oak Park held a design competition to renovate or replace the existing building at Field Park with sustainability, inclusivity, historical context, and community fit as the guiding principles.
Utilizing carbon-sequestering materials like cross-laminated timber panels and wood fiber insulation can drastically reduce the global warming impact of a new building. The Passive House standard allows us to maximize comfort while reducing the amount of energy used.
The new Field Center was designed as barrier-free and accessible to all. The adaptability of the space allows for community engagement, from performances to after-school activities.
The new Field Center is a contemporary interpretation of the Prairie Style that emphasizes low profile, horizontal roof lines with deep overhangs while focusing on natural materials. The Shou Sugi Ban wood facade harkens back to Japanese Architecture’s effect on Frank Lloyd Wright and others of the Prairie Style Movement.
